About the founder
Ruxandra Popa
Founder of The Academic Anchor
I founded The Academic Anchor with a simple belief: academic support should do more than correct a document; it should help writers develop clarity, confidence, and stronger communication in their work.
My own academic journey has given me a deep understanding of the challenges students and researchers face when navigating academic writing. I hold a First-Class Honours degree in Psychology and spent four years undertaking doctoral research in Psychology, where I developed extensive experience in academic research, critical analysis, and scholarly writing.
Alongside my academic background, I have five years experience working in higher education as a personal tutor, teaching fellow, and academic marker. Through these roles, I gained valuable insight into how academic work is assessed and the expectations placed on students at different levels of study.
To complement this experience, I also hold a professional proofreading and proof-editing qualification from the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). This training provides specialist expertise in language accuracy, editorial standards, and ethical editing practices.
Through The Academic Anchor, I combine proofreading, proof-editing, academic mentoring, and coaching to support students, researchers and writers in communicating their ideas clearly while preserving their intellectual ownership. My approach is particularly focused on supporting mature students returning to education, international and English as a Second Language (ESL) writers, and qualitative researchers working with complex academic material.
I believe that academic support should empower writers rather than simply correct their work. My aim is to provide guidance that helps capable minds express their ideas with greater clarity, confidence, and academic strength.
Because strong writing is not only about correcting a document, it is about helping capable minds communicate their ideas with clarity and confidence.
